WCW Monday Nitro Report
October 18, 1999
Live from the Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA

Tonight: The Return of Double J, the man they call Goldberg, and a very much alive Sting and Total Package. All this plus the first glimpses of the new creative direction of the tag team with the most stroke in the company, Russo and Ferrara.

A limo arrives at the arena, and out come several lawerly looking goofs accompanied by big Sid, who amazingly found a suit and tie he can fit his softball superstar frame in...

First Match: Juventud Guerrera vs. Evan Karagias
Well, the luchadores aren't dead yet...yet. Evan dominates early on, Heenan and Schiavone discuss the Sid angle...big crowd in attendance, really into the match. As Juvi attempts a pin, Bret Hart comes out and grabs the stick. He says that he was told he has no time for an interview, so he's just going to make time...He says he left WWF to come here, fight Hogan, and win the belt. He says all of a sudden there's some new guys in the back and they told him that the match will never happen...at that point, Stinger's Metallica theme kicks in and out comes the world champ, and yes, it's really Sting, not Jeff Farmer. Stinger's sporting a new haircut and a spiffy outfit. He tells Bret that he ought to know that promises don't come true in this business, and that for all the talk he has of "his time" and "his legacy", Sting has his legacy right *censored* here. He says that everyone gets screwed, and if Bret Hart will shut up, Sting will give him a shot tonight for the belt. Last but not least, it's showtime on Monday nitro folks.
Winner: Well, I guess it would have to be Hitman since he got a shot at the strap tonight.

Tony shoots on how tonight is Vince and Ed's first show tonight, and that in this show Goldberg will face Total Package, Harlem Heat will put the belts up against the Filthy Animals, and we will be treated to an evening gown match between Madusa and Mona, in which the winner must strip the loser down to her underwear. Backstage Tenay interviews Sid, who says basically nothing, on the advice of his legal counsel, except that tonight the world will know who Sid is. Cut to the outside, Big Bad Bill is shown in a limo of his very own. After the commercial, Sid is shown with the lawyers, as he is showing them the contract with the "no-contact" stipulation. The lawyers say they will take care of it.

Second Match: Disco Inferno vs. Vampiro
WCW Cruiserweight Title Match
Vamp comes out in a sporty ICP leather jacket...before the match starts, Louisiana Lash LeRoux's music hits and comes out to observe the match from the broadcast position. Ragin' Cajun is pretty good on the mike, especially with the accent. The match is over in about 2 minutes, with Disco retaining the belt. Lash hops in the ring and beats the hell out of Disco, nailing him with a Juvi/Michinoku/Vampiro Driver, after promising to take the belt at "Lash" Vegas...I hope he gets it too, that kid is good...
Winner: Disco Inferno

Backstage, Zybysko interviews Goldberg, who basically says that he doesn't like Sid and that he will beat the hell out of Package tonight.

Another Dustin Rhodes promo is shown, that little angle is pretty damn freaky. Rhodes promises that his reign of terror and darkness will start on the seventh day. Backstage, Tenay is interviewing Madusa, who is perturbed about participating in a "fluff job" nightgown match. She threatens that there might not be a match tonight and walks off.

Mean Gene shows off the two newest Nitro Girl contestants, and almost makes it through the whole segment until Buff Daddy's music hits and out comes Mr Bagwell, who probably could be a contestant for the Nitro Girls with his previous experience in "dancing." Buff comments on how all the internet reports say he's the chosen one, the golden child, blah blah. Buff says lots of things rhyming with Buff and Stuff and Enough and Huff.

Larry interviews Mona, who says that the nightgown match is a good opportunity for her to move up the ladder in WCW, and while she's never had a nightgown match, she's won plenty of matches while wearing a nightgown, so she's prepared to do whatever it takes. Best line of the segment is Larry saying that many a man has looked Madusa in the eye and turned to stone. In the hallway, Kimberley is looking damn hot, and looking for David Flair, for some reason. Oh to be David Flair...

This definitely is a new Nitro so far, lots of quick cuts to interviews and backstage stuff, pushing some of the younger guys — Bagwell, LeRoux...looks pretty good so far.

Backstage, Sid is conferring with his legal eagles, and Goldberg is shown in a typical SCSA shot, taping himself up for his match

Third Match: Rey Mysterio Jr. and Konnan vs. Harlem Heat
WCW World Tag Team Titles
Konnan's Filthy Animals mic shtick is almost as bad as his nWo one, which ranks right behind his solo gringo one. Put simply, the guy is stupid on the stick. During the beginning of the match, Torrie comes out to the ring with Kidman and Eddy Guerrero. Kidman comments on how Tony's pitching a tent with Torrie sitting next to him, and even says that she's got an outfit on under her robe for him, later...Cut to backstage with Jimmy Hart and Knobs and Morrus watching the match on TV, Kidman says they need to watch their diets. Oh yeah, there is a match going on, with both the Heaters taking it to Konnan. Rey Rey tries to interfere, But Stevie Ray sends him flying out of the ring...The rest of the Animals jump Booker T outside the ring, allowing Konnan and Rey Rey to double team Stevie Ray and get the pin and the straps!
Winners and new Tag Team Champs: Rey Mysterio Jr and Konnan

Backstage, Kimberley meets up with David Flair, and tells him she notices that he's been having some women difficulties and that may be because he's barking up the wrong tree. She tells him that he's never been with a women like her, and that DDP is out of town and she's lonely. She tells him what room she's in in the hotel and that he better not disappoint her. Tenay is interviewing the Filthy Animals when the First Inbreds...err.. Family shows up and demands a title shot at Havoc, which the Animals agree to.

Fourth Match: Hugh Morrus w/Jimmy Hart vs. Meng
I still say that Hugh is related to Mike Alstott...Meng lays the beat down on Hugh for awhile, when all of a sudden we have another Outsiders sighting. Morrus goes up top and hits a big elbow drop, then another, but then gets into a disagreement with the ref, allowing Meng to recover and apply the Death Grip for the pin
Winner: Meng by Tongan Death Pin.

Sid and his legal stooges make their way out to the ring...seeing this on the monitor, Goldberg tries to cut them off at the pass...WCW is now showing a TV-PG rating with the DSLV disclaimer, meaning d something, sex, language, and violence...tons of WWF stinks, Wrestling's White trash Federation, in general anti-WWF signs in the crowd, wonder how many are plants? Sid gets in the ring, runs down Goldberg, and tears up the contract. Goldberg runs down to the ring, spears the nearest lawyer, and gets a big boot to the head and a powerbomb for his troubles. Sid stuffs the contract in Goldberg's mouth and leaves, promising to kick Goldberg's ass at Halloween Havoc. Goldberg gets up, and Nash and Hall heckle him, till Goldberg shoves Hall, igniting a little fracas along the ring, causing security to break it up and kick the Outsiders out of the arena.

Tenay is in the back interviewing Hart about the world title match tonight, Hart promises a win, and if he wins, then Hogan will get the shot at Havoc. That apparently angers the Stinger, who runs in and lays out Hart. Hall and Nash are still being escorted out, and Goldberg is tracking down the Vicious One.

Fifth Match: Berlyn w/Chunk the Bodyguard vs. Rick Steiner
I have a funny feeling we might see Double J during this match...Crowd Sign: Alex or Berlyn, you still suck. After tossing Berlyn out of the ring, Steiner stands in the ring watching Brad Armstrong run in and try and get at Berlyn. Steiner puts BA into a sleeper, and the Bodyguard tries to nail him with a chair, but misses and nails Steiner, allowing Berlyn Wright to get the pin. Postmatch, Steiner kicks BA's ass up and down the entryway and into the back, kinda like in Mayhem.
Winner: Berlyn

Backstage, Hall and Nash have snuck back in and are looking for Goldberg. Hall shouts Goldberg backstage, prompting the crowd to chant Goldberg, to which Hall puts his fingers to his lips and says Goldberg in a whisper. Shot cuts to Kim entering the elevator in her hotel. D-Flair may not be space mountain, but it looks like Kim's heading for a ride on "It's a Small World"
Kim gets into the room and hears the shower going, and says she's going to get ready for him, and takes off her robe and is wearing a outstanding and very revealing outfit, when all of a sudden...WHOO! Here comes Ric Flair to give Kim the 14-time spanking her daddy should've done years ago...Back to Goldberg who is still stalking Sid, laying waste to monitors and employees, including the ICP, backstage. Switch quick to Tenay who is with Package and Liz, Package sells a great interview proclaiming nervously that he's not nervous...oh yeah, Liz was hot too, but did that have to be said?  Cut into the dressing room, where Mona and Madusa are shown on split screen picking out dresses and primping for tonight's matchup

Sixth Match: David Flair vs. Kidman w/Torrie
Hmm...maybe it ought to be Hoochie Hoo...I'm dying to see what she's got on, or what she doesn't have on, under that robe. Flair actually pulls off some moves, including an actual suplex. With Kidman down, Torrie distracts Flair by showing him her little blue undergarments, allowing Kidman to nail him from behind, which Flair no-sold, then a knockdown and Shooting Star Press for Kidman to win. The rest of the FA's run out and beat on Flair Lite, ending up with a Bronco Buster by Rey Rey.
Winner: Kidman

Backstage, Hall and Nash are still looking for Goldberg, eventually asking Meano Geneo for some directions. Nash downs some more "cough medicine" and the two continue their quest.

Seventh Match: Mona vs. Madusa
Nightgown Match
Wouldn't it be ironic if Double J showed up and beat them both up? Mona starts beating down Madusa to start, but she recovers with a suplex, ref takes the normal bump, then Mona gets nailed with a chair. Madusa goes to the broadcast location and complains to Tony and Bobby. Mona rips the gown off Madusa and leaves, Madusa gets the mic and tells everyone to kiss her ass, then stomps off mad.
Winner: Mona

Eighth Match: Bret Hart vs. Sting
WCW World Title Match
Hart dominates early, taking Sting outside and getting him up close and personal with the broadcast table. Momentum switches later on and Sting tosses some power moves, then takes Hart outside and has him kiss the table. Hart recovers, applies a clothesline and an implant DDT, near pin...swinging neckbreaker, another 2 count...snap suplex, 2 count. Sting reverses a whip, follows with a Splash. Sting applies a chinlock, Hart fights his way out, only to get a knee to the midsection and an elbow drop, works the crowd, then a leg drop and pin attempt, only gets 2. Chinlock back on...Hart fights out again, but receives an atomic drop and a 2 count. Hart retaliates with a series of elbow drops and a big kick to the face, then knocks him down with a headbutt, picks him up and lays on a piledriver. Hart gets up and stomps Sting, picks him up and drops him again...Heenan's best line: That'll ruin your paint job... Hart puts on the Sharpshooter, Sting makes it to the ropes, gets up limping, and gets a backbreaker for his efforts. Sting attempts a suplex but falls, giving Hart a 2 count. Sting puts on the sleeper, but Bret turns it into a belly to back. Sting gets up and goes up top, comes off the ropes into Bret's knees. Elizabeth is out at ringside now, Hart comes off with an elbow from the top...here comes Package with the bat. Liz distracts the ref, Hart takes out Package. Sting tries to jump Hart but gets beaten down. Package gets up and nails Hart with the bat. Sting puts on the Deathlock and Hart taps out. Post match Hart gets tended to by medical personnel.
Winner and still World Champ: Sting
Backstage, Ric Flair finds his pride and joy sulking in an equipment room, and when questioned about it, David tells his dad that Kidman beat him up and that the Filthy Animals jumped him. Flair gets fired up and starts making plans for revenge...cut to Hall and Nash still prowling around backstage looking for the Golden Bear. They dig up some luchadore masks, put them on and start looking for Senor Goldberg

Ninth Match: La Parka vs. Buff Bagwell
Buff comes out kinda grumpy, no strutting, no costume, nothing. The deal to make Return to Savage Beach 3 must have fallen through. Every time Buff knocks Parka down, he just sits down in the corner. Buff does a self-mocking little dance in the ring, then gets kicked by La Parka. Buff lies down and Parka gets the pin. Backstage the whole locker room is laughing at Bagwell. Buff goes to the broadcast table, grabs the headset and yells "Russo, did I do a good job? Who else can you bring in here to beat me?" All of a sudden Jeff Jarrett runs in and nails Bagwell with a guitar, and grabs the mic. He says that Buff can talk about stroke, but if he wants to know about stroke, how is it that he (Jarrett) was in Cleveland last night on a PPV and tonight he's here on Monday Nitro? Jarrett does the patented Mike Ditka package grab and tells Bagwell he has his stroke right here. Good entry, good mic work by Double J
Winner: La Parka

Backstage, WCW Security stops "Villano 8 and 9" err...Nash and Hall, who still claim to be looking for Senor Goldberg. Nash sells his "illness" with a little sound o' vomit

Tenth Match: Chavo Guerrero vs. Eddy Guerrero vs. Saturn
With Shane Douglas commentating, Chavo and Eddy agree to double team Saturn, but Chavo goes for the pin on Eddy..while they argue, Saturn nails Eddy. Majority of the match is Saturn on Eddy with Chavo outside the ring, then a small switch up, but then Eddy is in control and goes for the frogsplash, Chavo goes up to block it, then Saturn gets them both and hits a double superplex type move. The rest of the Filthy Animals come out and start some stuff with Shane Douglas. Kidman grabs the chair and nails Saturn. Shane starts a big diatribe about a conspiracy against the Revolution by WCW and does a good mic job...inside, Eddy pins Saturn, leaving Chavo and Eddy to fight it out, with Chavo getting a quick pin following a tornado DDT.
Winner: Chavo Guerrero

Eleventh Match: Horace Hogan vs. Norman Smiley
Return of the Hardcore Matches
Horace is earning his $500 tonight smacking Norman around with a trash can. Norman obviously doesn't belong in the hardcore division, and he tries to run and hide, while screaming and squealing the whole time. After tossing Horace into the steps, Smiley climbs them and demonstrates the Big Wiggle, until Horace hits him with a low blow. Hogan sets up a table in the corner and tries to nail Norman with the chair, but Norman ducks it. Hogan tries to splash him on the table, but Norman ducks it again and Horace breaks the table. A Surprised Smiley takes advantage of the breaks life has given him, and covers for the win. Hardcore Smiley anyone?
Winner: Norman Smiley

Ric Flair comes out to the ring, elaborates on the fact that he's a little mad about what's happened to his son...he calls out all the animals, who come in and proceed to beat him down. D-Flair runs in for the save and that doesn't work out. After Rey Rey ruff rydes Ric, they take his clothes and shoes, and watch and start wearing them around the ring. Eddy puts one of Ric's socks on his hands and sticks it in David's mouth. Backstage, Package goes to round up Elizabeth for his match, only to find her knocked out cold on the floor in her dressing room, next to a smashed guitar

Twelfth Match: Goldberg vs. Total Package
As Luger makes his way to the ring, Goldberg meets him halfway in the entry and the match starts there. HUGE Goldberg cheer goes up...that's what happens when you put your biggest star in the main event...Luger takes a brief advantage, hitting a suplex, but Goldberg jumps right up and side kicks Package. After a suplex by Goldberg, he goes for the spear, but Package ducks it and starts to stomp on Goldberg. After a flurry of moves by Package, Goldberg gets his groove back and lays Luger out. Ref gets bumped, and here comes the Outsiders, who sit in the entryway and watch, then comes Sting who nails Goldberg with the bat, and then comes Bret Hart, who takes the bat, and takes it to Sting. Hart breaks the bat in two, then tosses Sting in the ring and hits the Sharpshooter. Luger jumps Hart and racks him, but Goldberg spears Luger, gets up for the Jackhammer, and nails it for the 3 count! Goldberg and Hart shake hands and get buddy buddy after the match
Winner: Goldberg
