WCW Thunder - January 26, 1999
Announcers: Mike Tenay, Tony Shiavone and Scott Hudson
MGM Garden Arena , Las Vegas, Nevada.

Thunder opens with clips of the past few weeks of footage, detailing the feud between Sid Vicious and the nWo. Following the clips, we’re taken into the arena where Tenay makes note of the cage hovering over the ring. We’re then shown Mean Gene, who is in the ring. Introduces the new WCW heavyweight champion, Sid Vicious. Sid stated he had only one thing on his mind on Monday night when he was in the ring against the nWo for the title. That was to represent WCW. Goes on to say that they tried to keep him winning at all costs, having to fight the Harris boys, outlawing the power bomb etc. Just then, the nWo music starts up, as the nWo with the Harris boys, and a few female valets. Nash has a mic, and states that sometimes what he has to do as commissioner, is sickening. Nash states that he has to follow the rules though, and that the roadblock match rule was, Sid had to beat one of the Harris boys to go on to Nash, but if he lost, then Nash got the title. Nash shows a clip from Nitro, where Sid power bombed, then pinned a Harris boy. He then shows another clip which shows the Harris boy with the tie being pinned, the illegal man. Nash goes on to say that Sid has to relinquish the title to the commissioner, Kevin Nash. Nash orders David Penzer, the ring announcer, to take the title off Sid, and to bring it to him. Reluctantly, Penzer gets in the ring, and takes the title off of him. Nash states that he’s a nice guy, and that Sid will have an opportunity to win the title back. He will have to beat the new champion Kevin Nash in a steel cage, with a Harris boy in side, and he can only pin Nash. The power bomb is also outlawed as well. Nash is a three time champion of WCW now.

Backstage, Maestro with Symphony is being interview by Mean Gene. Gene runs off a few musician names, and states that Maestro is no where to be mentioned in Las Vegas. Maestro snaps on Gene and begins to go in to a pointless rant about his musical skills. Commercial.

Back from commercial in the nWo locker room, where Scott Hall is telling the rest of the nWo he has a surprise. Next thing, a bunch of slot machines role into the room. The nWo casino. Following the backstage scene, we’re shown the arena where Maestro makes his way down with his valet, Symphony. Following his entrance, a dozen or so Show Girls make their way onto the entrance. Norman Smiley comes on out, in a white tuxedo. The women and Norman make their way on into the ring. The women surround Norman, as he does the big wiggle.

Maestro w/ Symphony Vs. Norman Smiley w/ a dozen Showgirls
Maestro attacks Norman while he’s showboating with the woman. On out to the outside, as Norman gains the advantage and gets a table and ladder from underneath the ring. Norman begins to run up the aisle, while, getting hit with the ladder from behind. Norman grabs a garbage can and knocks Maestro down. Further in to the back, Smiley puts Maestro through a table. Smiley wobbles into a corner of the backstage area and sees the Demon. Norman freaks out and falls into a school boy pin by Maestro for the win.

Winner: Maestro

Backstage, we’re shown the nWo partying and gambling. Commercial.

Back from commercial, we’re shown Lex Luger and Liz chatting. Luger states that he is has a special chair with the Stinger’s logo on it, just in case Stinger’s injuries aren’t bad enough already.

Back into the arena we go as TAFKA Prince Iaukea makes his way down with his valet Paisley. His opponent. Kid Romeo! Romeo has been a regular on WCW Saturday Night, great worker.

TAFKA Prince Iaukea w/Paisley Vs. Kid Romeo
Tonight however, he starts off on his back as TAFKA knocks him down. Prince picks him up, whip into ropes and Romeo lands a thesz press. Prince is knocked to the outside, as standards and practices is shown on the outside. Standards and practices are wearing clothes resembling their Lenny and Lodi clothing. Ms. Hancock looks up set as she walks away from them and on over to the announcer’s desk. In the ring, Romeo is working the Prince over, until the Prince gets control and executes his finisher, the Paisely Park(?) for the victory.

Winner: The Artist Formerly Known as Prince Iaukea (Surprisingly a DUD)

Before going to break, we’re shown the nWo casino locker room, where the nWo is partying still. Scott Hall introduces the entertainment. Wayne Newton. (What the hell am I watching)

After the break, we’re shown The Demon make his way to the ring, with a Kiss song playing in the background (Uh…the lyrics sound like White Thunder?) His opponent, Over the Hill Terry Funk! (Note to self, this match isn’t worth a "!")

Demon Vs. Terry Funk
Tie up, followed by Demon pushing Funk into the corner, multiple shots. Funk gains control, and delivers a few shots of his own. Both men fall to the canvas, and then Funk gets up and wobbles to the outside. Funk whips Demon into the guardrail. Funk rolls Demon back in and follows. Connects with a reverse neck breaker. Picks him up and connects with second one. Cover for only two. Demon delivers a low blow, followed by an under hook suplex. Funk back up, and Demon with a series of rights. Funk puts on an abdominal stretch, Demon drops to the mat with Funk still holding on. Funk does a kiwi leg roll (Two guys rolling around the mat with their legs together), into a pinning combination, for the victory.

Winner: Terry Funk

Commercial. (Is it a sign, when I’m more entertained by commercials, rather then the feature program, WCW?)

As I sit here watching commercials, I have to wonder, how many people are really watching this show? Sure they get roughly a 1.5-2.5 in the ratings, but I can’t believe that many people voluntarily watch this. The WWF sucks sometimes, but not this bad. However, at least WCW doesn’t bring an 80 year old plus female out on a pay-per-view to strip. Just think everyone that saw Royal Rumble, now has to say they have seen an 80 year old’s slinkies!

Back from commercial with Vampiro making his way out. Followed by, Kidman with Torrie "Easy on the Eyes" Wilson.

Vampiro Vs. Kidman w/ Torrie Wilson
Vampiro rushes Kidman and knocks him down with a shoulder break. Vampiro slaps on a cross amr bar, but releases. Side suplex by Vampiro. Both men back up and Kidman in control, sends Vampiro into the corner. Vampiro grabs Kidman by the hips and tosses him to the outside. Vampiro outside now, as he rests on the Announcer’s table. Kidman comes lunging at him, but Vampiro side steps him. Back into the ring, series of pins by both men, only two. Side kick by Vampiro, only two. Attempted power bomb by Vampiro, countered by Kidman with an acid drop. Kidman drags Vampiro over to the opposite corner, climbs the ropes but Vampiro gets up and climbs to the second rope. Nail in the Coffin from the top rope!
Vampiro covers for the win.

Winner: Vampiro That match should be the ones that main event WCW for the world title.

Buff Bagwell is shown walking around backstage. Commercial.

Back from commercial, and we’re shown the cops outside the nWo locker room. They state there is illegal gambling and they would like to talk to the man in charge. Nash closes the door, and then pushes Newton outside, and shuts the door. Back in the arena, Lex Luger makes his way to ringside with Ms. Elizabeth. Following Luger’s poses, his opponent, Buff Bagwell makes his way to the ring.

The Total Package w/ Liz Vs. Buff Bagwell
Shiavone is stating Lex Luger killed Lex Luger with a funeral on Nitro a while ago, no Lex Luger is no more. So then, Shiavone states that Lex Luger is taking on Buff. Right…. These guys got to be the best match up. They both have great physiques, but suck in the ring, and aren’t to great on the mic either. Bore fest match up. In the closing seconds, Bagwell hit a spinning neckbreaker, followed by the Blockbuster. Buff went for the pin, got only two as Liz came in the ring and nailed Buff with the ball bat. The ref threw out the match.

Winner: Buff Bagwell

After the match, Luger grabs a steel chair and sets Buff’s arm in it, and begins to apply pressure on it. Much like how he "broke" Sting’s arm. Doug "Big Hungry Donut Eater" Dillenger and the rest of WCW security flood the ring to stop Luger from doing any more damage. Commercial.

Back from break, and we’re shown clips of the Nitro Grill earlier, where 3Count was in the Grill for a signing. Some teenage girl comes up, asks if they are the Back Street Boys, 3 Count nodd and ask if she wants their autographs. She thinks about it before answering no. The Mamalukes make their way up to the signing and trash talk 3 Count until it turns into blows.

3 Count Vs. Mamalukes
Into the arena, we see the Mamalukes make their way down to the ring. 3 Count in the ring already. Tenay states that Mamelukes means "Knuckle Heads, or buffoons." I can’t wait for the t-shirts. Anyway in the ring, 3 Count starts off in the air but once the Mamalukes get things goes, the pace begins to slow, which draws Boring chants from the 26 fans in attendance. Disco Inferno in the ring, doing his usual show boating. Tags in Jonny the Bull whose no better. Evan tags in Shannon, and hip tosses him onto Jonny. All men in the ring now, until the Mamalukes clear the ring of Evan and Shannon. The Tag champs pick Shane up as if to double power bomb him, but just slam him directly down on his back in a modified double power bomb, awesome effect. Disco connects with the last dance, followed by a pin.

Winner: Mamalukes

After the match Vito gets on the mic and cued a song by his favorite, Frank Sinatra. The Psycho Trio, Daphne, David and Crowbar come out and clear the ring of the Mamaluke and begin to dance to rock. Following that, we see Funk and Anderson searching for Sid, backstage. Commercial.

Back from break, we’re in the nWo locker room, which has no slots or black jack tables. The nWo decide that they are going to go kick Sid’s ass. Back into the arena, Booker T with Midnight makes his way to the ring, but is attacked by Flynn.

Booker T w/ Midnight Vs. Jerry Flynn
Booker T and Jerry Flynn begin on the outside, as Flynn jumps Booker. He whips him into the rail, and works him over. Finally into the ring, Flynn whips Booker into the corner, follows with a springboard kick to the outside. Booker gains control with an ax kick. Booker picks up Flynn, and executes a spine buster into a flip, pinning combination.

Winner: Booker T

Following the match we see Funk, Anderson and Sid discussing Sid’s upcoming match. Commercial.

Back from commercial, with the Cat coming down to the ring. I like the Kat from the WWF much more. Cat states he loves Las Vegas. Says the people want to see him badly, and beg to see him live. He says although he loves Las Vegas, he hates the out of shape fat fans. He tells some woman to shut up, her male friend begins to freak out, and try and jump the guard rail, resulting in him looking like he is retarded. Cat asks for his music, and then does some robotic like new moves. WOW! He’s been taking his Bengay!
After the Cat segment, Mean Gene and Kimberly are in the back. Gene asks Kim how things are between her and Page. She says that they came together and had a meeting of the minds. She went onto the say that there has never been a hurdle her and Page haven’t been able to jump, and that she doubts there ever will be one. Gene asks her if that is her finally answer. Page then shows up and tell hers to forget this "Popcorn"? She reluctantly leaves after stating that was her final answer. We’re then shown the Harris Boys discussing Sid, with Nash. Nash states they don’t have anything to worry about since the power bomb is outlawed. Commercial.

Back from commercial, and Bam Bam Bigelow is shown making his way down to the ring, followed by his opponent, Fit Finlay.

Bam Bam Bigelow Vs. Fit Finlay
Tie up, leaves Finlay with the cheap shot advantage. Back and forth match up in the opening minutes. Finlay sets a able on the outside up, but is met by Bam Bam who suplexes him back in. Bam Bam misses a diving headbutt. Finlay gets up and searchew for the wrench, no wrench. Bam Bam then executes "Welcome to Asbury Park" for the victory.

Winner: Bam Bam Bigelow

After the match we’re shown Brian Knobbs laughing hysterically as he holds Fit’s wrench in hand. We’re then shown the cage showing. Into the backstage area, we see Sid making the walk to the entrance. Then a shot of Nash coming to the entrance way from the opposite side of the backstage area. Commercial.

Sid Vs. Kevin Nash and Ron Harris
Both men work over Sid in the corner of the hell in the cell type cage. Rubbing his way off the mesh, and multiple punches, over and over. They roll him inside and go for multiple pins but Sid kicks out. Both men try to cover him at the same time, but he still kicks out. Back out the mats inside the cell and Sid snaps. He whips Nash into one side of the cage, and then begins to work over Ron Harris. Sid executes a choke slam on Ron Harris. Nash comes in and stops Sid. Sid slaps on the cross face (Benoit’s Move), and Nash taps out (nearly with a smile on his face). Ref class for the bell.

Winner and new WCW Heavyweight Champion: Sid

After the match, Sid celebrates, as Ric Flair makes his way out on to the entrance, merely clapping at Sid’s performance. Show fades with Sid and the belt.
